After everything that has happened in the last year, health and wellness has become a hot topic. Lockdowns and restrictions have led to people focusing on physical fitness, what they eat and their general overall health.
This has extended into the dog food market, with research from Packaged Facts suggesting that 23% of dog owners being especially concerned with their pet’s anxiety and stress. As well as 20% of dog owners being particularly concerned about their pet’s immune system. As pet health and wellness has become a focal point for a while, current events have only contributed to this for dog owners.
As a result of pet owners spending more time at home, people are paying closer attention to their pets attitudes, behaviours and health. This has resulted in owners seeking solutions for issues such as skin and coat health, immune health and digestive health. This has been reflected within pet food, with a clear focus on beneficial ingredients and where they have come from.
Packaged Facts research found that 43% of pet owners strongly agree that they like the idea of healthier food for their pet. At the same time, 37% said they are interested in giving their pet more preventative healthcare. In addition, 34% strongly agree that they are willing to spend more on pet food with health and wellbeing benefits. A separate study by Euromonitor found that pet healthcare products grew by over 9% globally in 2020.
